For very anxious, frightened, or restless children, we offer the option of treatment under premedication. A low dose of a benzodiazepine is administered in tablet form to help the child relax and feel calm. During the procedure, children are usually more cooperative and often do not remember the treatment afterward. A condition of this type of treatment is that the child remains under parental supervision for the rest of the day, as they may feel tired or sleepy after the procedure.
Another option is inhalation conscious sedation with EntonoxThis is a safe and non-invasive method in which the child inhales a mixture of 50% nitrous oxide (N₂O) and 50% oxygen (O₂). Entonox has analgesic (pain-relieving), mildly sedative, and anxiolytic effects – it helps reduce fear and tension without causing loss of consciousness. The effect begins quickly and wears off rapidly once inhalation is stopped, allowing the child to return to normal activities without prolonged drowsiness.
